Hi, I am trying to locate an old classmate
and friend, Cordelia Portase. She is listed on your site and I am trying to
contact her via email. Would you by any chance be able to pass on this
information to her, i.e. her friends from Alpina are trying to get hold of her on
Facebook.com? I would appreciate it very much if this is possible. Thank you.
With best wishes,
Ku-Shung Liu

Beste familie Somsen,
Jullie site is werkelijk prachtig,
boordevol
vriendelijke groet,
Ina

MUYSKENS - SOMSEN
On Wednesday evening, June 13,
the marriage of Miss Wilmina Muyskens of Orange City, and Harry Somsen of
Baldwin, Wis., was solemnized in the First Reformed Church Chapel. The ceremony began with a prelude by
Miss Jeneva Korver, niece of the bride. The ushers were Calvin and Marvin
Korver, nephews of the bride. The candies on the altar were lit by two nieces
of the bride, Miss Joyce Muyskens and Miss
Wilma Korver, who wore pink
formals. Arian Korver, a nephew of the bride, then sang "God Bless This House." Mendelssohn's Wedding
March was played, and the officiating clergymen, the bridegroom, and the
best man, Henry Somsen, took their places at the flowerbedecked altar. The
bridal party entered with Miss Helen Bogaard as bridesmaid.
She wore a floor-length,
sky-blue chiffon gown, and carried a bouquet of pink and white carnations. Miss
Katherine Muyskens, sister of the bride and maid-of-honor, followed in a shell-pink, taffeta gown, carrying a bouquet of pink
and white carnations. The flower
girl was little Sharon Rose
Muyskens, a niece, who wore a dress of pink net. The ring bearer, little Cornelius Muyskens, a nephew, was in a
white sailor suit. The bride entered on the arm of her father, Cornelius
Muyskens, who gave her in marriage. She wore a gown of chiffon over white
satin, with lace trim, and finger-tip veil. Her necklace was three
strands of pearls, and her bridal bouquet consisted of pink and white roses,
and sweetpeas. The double-ring service was read by the bride's brother, the
Rev. George C. Muyskens. The prayer of blessing was offered by the Rev. H.
Colenbrander, following which Miss Betty Somsen, niece of the groom,
sang "O Perfect Love." Following the ceremony, a reception was held
for about 100 guests in the Church Parlors. A program was given, consisting of
several musical numbers, readings, and a talk by Rev. H.
Colenbrander. The waitresses
were friends of the bride. The decorations were in the bride's chosen colors of
pink and blue, and were in charge of Miss Elizabeth and Miss Frances
Colenbrander. The couple were the recipients of many beautiful gifts. Mr. And Mrs. Somsen left for Woodville, Wis., Friday. They will
live there in their recently purchased, modern home. Mr. Somsen operates a
grain elevator in partnership with his brother, William Somsen. Out-of-town
guests were Mr. and Mrs. B. J. Somsen, Mrs. William Wernlund, the Misses
Jennie, Dena and Ella Somsen, Rev. and Mrs. George C. Muyskens, George Dean and
Benton, of Baldwin, Wis., Mrs. William Somsen and Miss Betty Somsen of
Woodville, Wis., Mr. and Mrs. Henry Somsen, Roger and Shirley, of Bloomer,
Wis., and Miss Helen Bogaard of Pella, Iowa. C. Muyskens and daughter, Miss
Katherine, left Wednesday evening to visit the newly-weds for a few weeks.

Bernard en Hennie Somsen 50 jaar
getrouwd
Beste Familie
ouders Bernard [1347] & Hennie [1348] Somsen Schetsberg 50 jaar getrouwd.

Jan. 21st, Gary's mother Doris M. Somsen
died. It was her wish to be buried in Jamestown, N.D. even if she had left
there in 1951. We went to Jamestown and Marion Ness and Hazel and Harvey
Holzworth and many many of the Somsen's family and relatives came to her
service and then we had a wonderful get-to gether in the Dakota Room in
Jamestown.
The people in Jamestown were so very kind.
We enjoyed meeting each and everyone of them. Somsen people are really good people
and we can not thank the Somsen's of Jamestown enough for all the kindness they
showed our family.
Doris was the wife of Hugh J. Somsen and
dauther-in-law to Aaron Somsen, mother to Gary Somsen, Edna Wooton, Marilyn
Kates and Hugh Steven Somsen.
