Elaine Somsen Anderson, 66, died of multiple myeloma, Sept. 9, 2000 in Palo Alto,
CA.
She was born Jan. 2, 1934 in Salt Lake City, UT. to Laren A. and Myrtle Cutler
Somsen. Elaine was a graduate of Murray High School and the University of Utah.
At the U she was a member of the marching band and Alpha Delta Pi Sorority, where
she later was instrumental in establishing a scholarship fund from the sale of
the sorority house at 70 S. Wolcott. She married Paul N. Anderson in 1956 and
they were the parents of three sons, Michael (Lori), Eric, and Ken. She had two
grandchildren, Andrew and Zachary.
Survived by her husband, children and grandchildren in California, she is also
survived by her sister Barbara Somsen Petersen of Salt Lake City.
Elaine pursued many interests, including earning a Doctorate at BYU in 1984 and
creative writing studies at Oxford and Stanford University. She had a successful
career as Professor at San Jose State University where she taught and counseled
older students and was a mentor to many women. She will br greatly missed by
her family as well as many friends in her writing group, sailing club and the
Los Altos Tap Dancers.
A memorial service will be held at the Golden Gate Yacht Club in San Francisco,
Sunday, October 1, 2000.
