Two Northern California multimedia academies, the Digital Safari at Mt. Diablo High School, and the Multimedia Academy at Napa Valley Unified's New Tech High School, kick-off site for federal congressional hearings on "What's Right with Education," will host the Second Annual Best Practices in Multimedia Education Symposium, March 12 and 13, 1997. The event is co-sponsored by the Bay Area Multimedia Partnership, whose members include such well-known "edutainment" companies as Broderbund Software ("Where in the World is Carmen San Diego"), Maxis ("Sim City"), and LucasArts, and Mindscape.
The Symposium will feature keynote addresses by industry leaders, demonstrations of products and prototypes by multimedia academy students and teachers and interactive Web Sites to help teachers integrate multimedia technology into the curriculum. Last year's keynote speaker was Dave Master, Director of Training for Warner Bros., Inc. The Symposium will be held at the Digital Village on the Indian Valley Campus of the College of Marin on Wednesday, 3/12 and features a tour of Napa's New Tech High in the morning on 3/13, followed by an optional wine tasting tour in the afternoon.
The Napa Valley and Mt. Diablo Unified Multimedia Academies were funded as demonstration sites for the integration of academic and vocational learning by the United States Department of Education Office of Adult Education, through a grant proposal written by Jeanie Somsen Jacobson.
Attendance at the Symposium is limited to the first 150 participants. The registration fee of $120 per person includes lunch both days and transportation from the Embassy Suites in San Rafael to Napa's New Tech High School. An optional wine tasting tour on the afternoon of 3/13 may be booked for an additional $30.
Air travel may be arranged until February 27 by contacting Contra Costa Travel at (510) 557-7400. Lodging may be arranged by contacting the Embassy Suites in San Rafael @ (415) 499-9222 or 1-800 362-2779. Please reference the BPME Symposium to receive the group discount.
The Best Practices Symposium follows immediately the Project Based Instruction Conference which is co-sponsored by the Marin County Office of Education and the Autodesk Foundation on March 10 and 11.
