Preface

Our family magazine is doing fine!

This is not only the fifth edition of Somsen Horizon, but the interest in it is also increasing.

On December 31, 1999 we counted 198 supporters. Quite a nice increase as compared to December 31, 1998.

You will certainly understand that we are eager to lift this number well above the psychological threshold of 200.

Therefore… you could help us by giving some family members an extra push into the good direction. If you should need an extra copy of Somsen Horizon for that purpose, please let us know and we will see to it.

We were also very much surprised by the interest in a new activity. We have organised a boat trip from Nijmegen in the Netherlands to Emmerich in Germany. So far no less than about 100 family members have registered for the boat trip on May 13, 2000! Far more than we had expected.

It is bound to be an extremely pleasant trip, with many possibilities for old and new contacts.

Finally we want to express our gratitude to everybody who sent in articles for this fifth issue. It proves once more that there is enough life in our family.

On behalf of the board,

Theo Somsen

A COUPLE FOR FORTY YEARS

At a very beautiful place in the Achterhoek we celebrate the party of Ben [396] and Hanny [397] Somsen. They have been happily married for forty years, which is a good enough reason to celebrate this together with children, grandchildren, relatives, friends and neighbours, all of them in their Sunday best. In Avenarius in Ruurlo they are expecting us in a very festive manner.

Ben and Hannie are surprised by beautiful presents and sketches full with humour and a little bit of teasing. Their four sons and daughters-in-law present them in a playful way with a stay at a beautiful hotel in the dunes of Noordwijk.

The grandchildren make a round dance in their lovely white festive clothes together with Grandpa and Grandma. All this is accompanied by vigorous and superb music.

In the meantime the board of the Somsen Foundation is combining the pleasant and the useful. This gathering offers a splendid opportunity to recruit a new board member. We shall see if this is going to be a success.

Our advisor, the bridegroom Ben, and his Hannie mixed with their guests beaming with joy. This is clearly visible.

I take de liberty to wish Ben and Hannie many happy years on behalf of all the readers.

Gree van Daatselaar-Somsen [53]
