SOMSEN HORIZON

Volume 2, number.4  -  November 1999

TAKE-OFF TO BALDWIN

by Theo Somsen [227]

One day it had to happen: a visit to Baldwin, Wisconsin. Since the big reunion of 1997 the desire to it became larger and also the invitations increased. 1999 seemed to me to be a suitable year, all the more because it was in that year 65 years ago that my father visited his aunt, and cousins in Baldwin. And it happened, because from 15 July to 10 August our son Marnix and I visited Baldwin: the largest small town in Wisconsin.

But it became a detour, because we started in Florida and travelled from there through the Boston-region to Wisconsin. An unforgettable journey, many heart-warming meetings and conversations with hospitable family members and many impressions on the fascinating country: America!

My diary of that journey counts 86 pages (approximately the same as the diary that my father kept) and that could fill four editions of Somsen Horizon. Of course, that is not possible and that's why I will limit myself to a picture-report of this journey. Pictures with captions, so that you get an impression of what we went through.

If we look at the path,

we do not see the sky.

We are earth people

on a spiritual journey to the stars.

Our quest, our earth walk,

is to look within,

to know who we are,

to see that we are connected to all things,

that there is no separation,

only in mind.
